Opolis Sessions

With strong winds, I felt like I was blown into Opolis. Shoved through the door picked up and placed at the ticket counter. Recovering slowly, I remembered why I was in Opolis.

Opolis was hosting its first-ever sessions series. The Live Music Society sponsors Opolis Sessions. The concept is very similar to MTV’s Unplugged series. Tonight Opolis featured Cherry Laurel and Liquid Girlfriend.

The night was young, meaning I got there way too early. I sat down and watched as Cherry Laurel did a sound check. The sound engineers were perched up front yelling over the loud music.

The soundcheck ended and the six-piece band Cherry Laurel dispersed to their corners of the venue. I got up and was gently placed by the force of the wind coming through the open door to the front of the bar.

The house punch is delicious, especially with vodka. Floating back to my seat, I watched as Liquid Girlfriend appeared at the bar. Adesley the lead singer walked by with a tequila shot and a beer. I offered them a seat and at first, she said no thank you. Then her band member Mackenzie chimed in and said yes.

Adesley, Mackenzie, and Aidan all gathered around my table. I turned my head and saw that Cherry Laurel was blown on stage.  “1,2,3,4” and bam with electric energy the band began.

A smile spread across my face as the band played with such force. My favorite song performed was “Mr. Mirror” It had a Beatles vibe to it, however, the band made it their own.

After the set ended Cherry Laurel loaded their equipment off stage and then disappeared to their respective corners.

Liquid Girlfriend was up next. Adseley sat at the front of the stage watching their band set up and by the force of the wind, the band was done in a blink of an eye.

Near the end of their set, the band covered Wet Legs’ song “Wet Dream”.  Alisha the guitarist and backup vocalist started the song out. Adesley and Alisha switched off singing. Their performance was amazing.

Like Cherry Laurel, Liquid Girlfriend was blown off stage by the howling wind and Sessions was over.

Suddenly I was picked up and swopped out of Opolis back into the dark streets of Norman, still warm for the amazing shows I had just witnessed.
